In 1977, a group of independent office supply dealers got together and decided they could be more powerful if they joined forces. They could get volume discounts and pass them along to their customers while still remaining in their local communities, serving their customers like no competitor could. Thus, Independent Stationers was founded in Indianapolis, IN.

As a dealer-owned buying collective, Independent Stationers has no stockholders, no ties to Wall Street. Currently, we have hundreds of independent office supply dealers with over 500 service locations across the U.S. Independent Stationers is a dominant, nationwide buying cooperative with $20 billion in buying power through its affiliation with Business Products Group International. Our wholesale partner is United Stationers, the largest office products wholesaler in the country. Yet, our focus is decidedly local and personal.
